Goodshepherd Kennels just had to share this e-mail with the world for it is one that every breeder would love to receive.
Hi Audrey and John,
Funny I should get an email from you today, as I was just logging on to send
you one.
I had Dabria to the Veterinarian yesterday. We have a dear friend who is a
Vet, but for a number of reasons cannot take Dabria on right now, and she
referred us to an old school friend of hers she is a wonderful Christian Lady,
who works from her home. She made a number of comments I thought I would share
with you. I know you will be as proud as I am.
She stated that Dabria was the best “specimen” of a German Shepherd breed she
has seen in over twenty years. No kidding! She was so intrigued by her she asked
if I had papers on her. I keep all of Dabrias stuff together, and had all of the
stuff you gave me right in my file. The Vet was really impressed. She actually
asked if I was using her as a working dog, assuming I was a Police officer. She
just assumed Dabria was a working dog because of the complexity of the Pedigree.
When she looked at the papers she stated “No wonder you are so beautiful, look
at these bloodlines, I’ll bet she is as smart as they come”. She phoned up to
her house and asked her husband to come look at a “perfect Dog”. She had been
explaining to him previously how so very few dogs are really well bread these
days in Canada, and felt this pup was nearly Perfect. She only said near perfect
as Dabrias ears were down (again) Because of her teeth. They had just fallen the
day before. She checked them and said they will be back up in a few days; one
nasty tooth is almost out.
She is coming to see her track this week. She asked all about you guys, as she
said she had never seen such a beautiful Shepherd. She stated I need “Specific
food” for such a lovely dog. I told her about the food you suggested, and
frankly she was skeptical about any Co-Op food being any good. She asked for a
bag to look at, and I took her back one later in the day. She was actually
really impressed, said its great stuff, but suggested I keep an eye on her coat
as some (shepherds) are very sensitive to even small amounts of wheat. She
stated this did not appear to be a problem, and stated obviously you guys knew
what you were doing for your specific dogs. I’ll keep her on it, with
supplements, as it is half the price of the brand stuff, which is mostly
garbage. She would not recommend even one store bought brand for Dabria.
Dabria got a perfect score on her exam.
The Vet thinks I should prepare her for showing, but I am not interested in any
of that. Tracking, as you know is all I want her to really do. The vet does not
believe she can track as well as I have stated, she says she is too young to be
really good at it. She has some experience in this, although she admits she is
no expert. She Is coming to have a look herself, as she lives near by. I
offered to do it right there at her farm for her (even though I did not have
Dabrias Harness). She had other clients waiting, and didn’t wish to stress her
beyond the needles. I made the mistake of saying “Track the kids” out loud, and
Dabe went nuts! She loves to work! She can track easily for miles now, and
ignores pretty much everything when she is working. I trust her pretty much 100%
now. I haven’t really had to teach her much. All I know is from the books you
loaned me, she has just picked it up on her own. The Vet can go hide, Dabe will
find her, no problem at all. I of course am just so proud, because I didn’t
say anything special about her, and the Vet just went on and on. We talked for
an hour (exam aside). I thought you would want to know how special she is, and
not just to me. I love her for other reasons, and I wouldn’t care if her ears
ever came up. She’s going to be big though, she is 47 pounds already, at 4
months!
Be well and feel free to stop by any time you are in town. I’ll have the girls
go hide. You will be very impressed. Best wishes, Mark
